Software

Yesterday I really buried myself in work. Richard was not building, so I decided to get some work out of the way. I got so much work done – I was really impressed with the results.

I have just done another re-organization on the code for the program I am working on. I have added a screen capture below. I have moved the buttons to the side, and I am adding Tool Tips for them. I know I can make the screen look ‘sexier’, but I am still working out the details on how to do that. The Icon’s are not really self-explanitory, but at least they look user friendly and moden. And that is half the battle.

There is a lot of technology hidden in this program, and the hard part is to hide it from the user – and make it so that simple users are not intimidated whilst power users are given the tools that they need. I need to do things like add more colour and icons in the table. But it needs to be subtle. And not just added for the sake of it.

The ability to click on the top of a column and sort the data is really an advantage. As is the ability to ‘sort’ or ‘group’ on several columns. What I really need to do now is to set the order of columns, and work out the widths. Then I need to save the positions and widths. Anyway I really need to get some sleep. I will finish this tomorrow.

Today I will speak to my client and ask him about this… I think he will be happy. There are definitely some things that we need to work out, but this will meet the client’s requirements I should think.

The Simpsons

I have not need much of the Simpsons in the last six months. I think I have seen most of the first few series of it. Why am I mentioning this… Well, there is a story in the NY Times, which you can get if you register for free, that says that The Simpsons is about half way though it’s life. Basically since the show is 17 years old that means it may still be going in another 17 years… Exxxxceeellleeeennnnttt as Mr Burns would say.

Music:

Phantom of the Opera is playing with The Music Of The Night as I post this item…
