Time to start that new job… Farming

I have just spent the last few hours doing some programming. I am getting there, but the work is running a bit late since I needed to have a LONG weekend to get away from it all. Anyway I have been doing the programming for an embedded device and it has not been working. It has been really going strange. Nothing I would try would work.

So I put some code in one of the functions I was calling to tell me the value of the variable. But for some reason the code was not being run. That did not make sense. The code was of the form

scpy (MEM_PUSH, “ONE”); push;

Where PUSH was not being called. I then worked out the fix…

scpy (MEM_PUSH, “ONE”); push();

What it was doing – well, I have no idea. I am sure a real programmer would know. But not me! Time for me to give up engineering and move onto a farm doing subsistance farming. Spending two hours searching for the missing () characters

Addendum. I have just spent more time programming. I forgot to set a variable and my software would crash. No matter what I did it would not work. And if I edited the code the error would move. Turns out I was forgetting to set a variable and left it with a negative number. I suspect that this device does not have a memory management unit with seperate code and data spaces 🙂
