I had a phone call a little while ago asking if he could come over and use my workshop to work on a case for one of his clients. No problem, except that I just needed to spend 20 minutes cleaning up the workshop so it was in a fit condition to be used. I expect him to be here at any time. So if this entry is rather short, well, that might be the reason why. [Correction… My friend is running a bit late… So I have time to go to the Post Office once more…]

The Queensland government is reporting that they are looking at shutting down a an SMS service showing the location of police traps. The service on Queensland’s Gold Coast has about 300 ‘spies’ on the lookout for speed traps, breath testing vans and police patrols. The operators are arguing that by informing the public about the location of the police they are therefore actually encouraging people not to commit an offense.

And the Paul Saffo web site is reporting how he is using GPS to track movements in his house form the San Andreas Fault. He was lent a surveying GPS to do the initial survey, and intends to re-survey things periodically in order to see how fast his house is moving.
