One of the ways that Windows protects itself is a thing called ‘System Restore’. What the System Restore function does is takes a copy of all the important system files from windows every night, and when some important software is installed. When windows breaks, the system (or a user) can then restore the files to a point in time. The system commonly reserves a hideous amount of HDD space for the system restore information… One of the things that I do when I install a new system is to reduce the amount of HDD space for the system restore point.
