I am getting used to the drive here to Pymble. And I guess I am almost enjoying it – driving at the right times certainly helps. This morning there was basically no congestion on the M2, to the point where I was going at the speed limit the entire length of my journey on the road. I suspect that the slowest part of the trip is waiting for the lights to get off the M2 onto Ryde Road. And this is a LEFT turn.

I have been reading with interest about the proposed sale of Snowy Hydro… And how many people have totally missed the implications of this. Most people believe that the main business of the Snowy is to take melted ice, and generate power from this. This is only part of the purpose. The main purpose, from the point of view of most people in NSW, is that Snowy buys power when it is cheap, and pumps water with that electricity. Then when the power is more expensive it generates power from the water.

But because they can store electricity, they can then manipulate the price of electricity to whatever they want. They can cause the price of the electricity that they generate to be 10 times or more what it would normally be. And they can restrict supply. They are probably the biggest influence on electricity prices in the country… I don’t think it is a great idea to have this in private hands.
