Over the last few days I have been looking at my options for what I do in September for the conference in the USA. This year it is in Tuscon, Arizona. And I want to drop in on my friend in Auckland either going there or coming back. But getting to Tuscon is a real pain. American Airlines only flies to Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago, and they are the ones I want to use because of frequent flyer miles.

But looking at the fares, it is not much more expensive to get an around the world ticket and do things properly. So what I am thinking of is flying from Sydney to Bancock, and spending a couple of days there. I have a client there who I would love to actually meet, and he might actually be funding my trip if I can get him to buy more software. Then fly to London for a few days. Then onto Tuscon. Obviously Tuscon International Airport only handles flights from Mexico from Outside the USA so I would be flying in to Chicago.

Then after the conference (17-19 September I think), I would get a lift to Phoenix airport with a friend. This would save me many hours of flights, and more importantly would make my trip below the 29,000 miles where prices go up. Then I would fly to Auckland via LA, just stopping in LA to change planes. And then from Auckland back to Sydney. None of this is confirmed yet, but that is my thinking anyway. I think this would be a fun trip.
