War Of The Worlds

There is a song by Queen called ‘Radio GaGa’…
I’d sit alone and watch your light
My only friend through teenage nights
And everything I had to know
I heard it on my radio, Radio

You gave them all those old time stars
Through wars of worlds — invaded by Mars
You made ’em laugh — you made ’em cry
You made us feel like we could fly

I was sure that they were not the Lyrics. I thought said something like ‘From War Of The Worlds to Teenage Lust’… But I checked the song and sure enough the lyrics above are correct. So why am I mentioning this song from Queen and my past? Well, apart from the fact that I like the song, as I mentioned earlier I saw the Movie today.

I am not sure what I was expecting, but I know I was not expecting what I got. I must admit to my great shame that I have not read the book. That will come – and i think I even have a copy. Even if I do not I can legally download a copy since it it out of copyright. Anyway…

Without giving too much away this really is the story of a father who does not have enough love for his children, and for children who are somewhat estranged from their father. And the film talks about a journey, both from New York towards Boston, and of self-discovery, and discovering his love for his children again.

There are some obvious plot issues – such as why the only person who can get a car working is from New York near the epicentre of one of the events. And how he was able to drive the car at speed on the freeway. And why he is so intelligent whilst all the other are so dumb…

In the book, the centre was the seperation from the main character and his wife. That was mostly missing in the film, and therefore there was something missing…

All in all an OK movie… But one for DVD
