Also in yesterdays news, my mother took her thesis to the book binders – and early next week will be handing the bound copies in… Then they get examined within 2-3 months and then she hears back about any changes that need to be made…
One of the things that interests me with language is how people write things that they would say. That is, we might say “Ten Dollars”, but write it “$10”, or more correctly, “Dollars ten”. And people for whom english is a second language might write it at “10 $”. Just one of the strangenesses of the english language.
The “Yes Prime Minister” show used to mention ‘irregular verbs’ occasionally… Normally they would be like Jump, Jumping and Jumped. In the TV show case it was ‘The Prime Minister is about to give an off the record briefing to the press’, ‘His Assistant is leaking documents to the press under instructions’, ‘The leader of the opposition broke the official secrets act and should be sent to gaol for telling that to the media’…
