A friend of mine MSN’ed me this morning from up north… He was looking at buying a Garmin GPS 100 on eBay for $200, thinking that this was a good deal for a GPS. I had an idea it was a horrible deal. Doing a bit of searching I found the Garmin Wikipedia page. This was enlightening. It turns out that the GPS 100 was released in 1990 as Garmin’s first product. And for something like a GPS receiver, 15 or 16 years is a LONG time.
The other thing that was noted in this page was that the Shuttle Accident in 1996 delayed the GPS satellites by two years. They ended up re-designing the satellites so that they would fit in a Delta II rocket rather than going up in the shuttle. Probably a very wise move, and a more appropriate use of resources I would guess.
The Unread Email list has less than 50 entries now. I hope to have it down to 20 or so within an hour. I will see how that goes. But do not hold your breath!
