I am now home after being out most of the day… Church this morning, followed by a meeting and then some time working on the plane.
So, what did we get done on the plane I can hear you all ask. Well, some important stuff. Firstly I increased the size of some holes going across the fuselage between the wings from 1/2″ to 9/16″. This might sound easy, but it provided some hassles since the UniBit drillbit normally used would not fit into a drill and still have clearance to make the hole. So I worked out how to use the unibit in a socket set and this worked, albeit slowly.
I then removed both of the steel weldments holding the landing gear in place. These needed to be cleaned up before final installation – which might get done next week. Then we spent some time putting in eight rivets on the top of the golden bulkhead on the side of the plane. This was a tiny bit of a pain, but was not too bad.
Then we spent some rivets at the front end of the top rim of the fuselage. Some of these rivets were a real pain, but thankfully for once I got to use the rivet gun… So much easier… Anyway, it was fun… More later.
