Some links… LiveScience has a story about how Sandia National Laboratories have managed to get a record for the hottest temperature ever recorded – at 3.8 billion degrees. That is many many times hotter than the surface of the sun. The main problem is that whilst they can repeat the experiment at will, they have no idea why the result is so hot.
