Daylight saving has lots and lots of advantages. For better or worse, the sunrise and sunset times change throughout the year, and it makes sense to vary the time of things in relation to these. But what this does mean is a type of jet lag effect when the times change. For instance I woke up at about 5:30AM this morning. This was not the time I wanted to wake up, and I could not get back to sleep. So some time before 6AM I am out of bed doing stuff. In the old daylight saving world, this would have been 6:30 AM which is a more respectable time for voluntarily getting out of bed.

In what has to be one of the strangest pieces of logic ever, the LA Times is reporting that some companies in the USA are about to offer movie downloads for US$20-30. This might not seem too dumb, until you realise that the DVD could be bought at Walmart for $15. They claim that there is the convenience factor for downloading the movie… Maybe if it took the 30 seconds it took to download an MP3 file, but movies are a lot bigger, and therefore take a lot longer to download. Also if you buy the DVD you get the case and all the extras. Hmm..
