Junk SMS

I have been getting some junk SMS messages over the last few days.

The latest one was from 19735555, and the text was :-
“FreeMSG. You have a secret admirer! Reply CHAT to this message to be connected! For help call 1300885902. Average msg cost $2.70‘.

Whilst I have no doubt that there are lots of women out there falling into the category of being my secret admirer, I am slightly suspicous about the message. Well, more than slightly! Lets think about this logically. If there is someone who does admire me why would they use a service like this?

The chance of embarrasment (which I think is the reason you would use a service like this) is almost the same as if the person was to SMS, eMail or phone me direct, or even speak to me in person. In other words, there is little reason for using the service if the person really does exist. Sooner or later I would find out who the person was. I am prepared to be proved wrong, but I doubt it.
