What I didn’t get a chance to talk about earlier was the new ViPower LAN-DISK device I picked up yesterday. Or more correctly one of my clients picked up for me and delivered here late last night. This is a device that connects to an IDE HDD and turns it into a LAN HDD. With my storage requirements here, and the decreasing cost of storage I think that this type of device has a great future.

Right now I have this device connected next to my servers as additional storage, and I am just just copying data to it right now to populate it. Then I will have some more room available on some of my other boxes for some other uses. Information just seems to fill the available space. Most of the scanned papers are online… I then need to move old archives from machines online… And since these devices turn the HDD off when they are not needed the power consumption is almost nothing which is good. The only thing is that I really need to get a new Switch at some stage… the one that I have there is now almost full. Argh!

Right now though I am about to go for a run. I cannot see that it will be any worse than my poor effort yesterday. Yes, it was a poor effort. Today WILL be better!
