Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out. Now that I am calm I can describe the last few hours. Firstly pick up my mother from the Hospital where she is getting a Scan done. I left at 12:30 to do this, and thankfully I my phone diverts to my mobile so I was able to do some work on the way. Then when I got home I had a problem to solve. Dealing with a CDMA modem.

Most of the Telco’s realize that us consultants are not always authorised to make changes to the accounts we need to ring up about. They realize that we just need to see if there is something wrong with the account, and they are able to do that without divulging privacy information. [Knock at the door. Dell to work on my PC. Shut down etc.]

Then I tried something dumb. I connected up the modem to an old laptop and installed the MAXON software and connected to the Internet. Modem works. Therefore it is a BUG in the software that does TCP. So ring up MAXON to complain. I am not happy. And their tech support person put me onto someone else who asked me about the AT$$IPCFL command and the TCP value. It was 0 and should have been 1. Changed this and things suddenly worked.

And in the middle of this a friend of mine has been asking me about writing windows services. I think he thought I was strange when I presented a five part project to do the service work. Now he is not so sure. My solution is to put the common code together, and have a service use this common code, but also have a seperate GUI using this client code. and then there is the two install programs. Sounds complex but it makes things easier!

Oh, in the middle of this I went down to the local hardware store to buy some plumbing supplies. And get some lunch at the lunchy time of 3pm… LONG DAY
