Alarm Octopus Wiegand to OSDP Converter

Eight Input, Eight Output

The Alarm Octopus is designed to make your life easer with access control systems. This is a device that we needed. And if we needed it, we were sure that other people would need it too!

At its most basic, it takes inputs from up to eight wiegand RFID card readers and outputs them over a single OSDP connection. No longer do you need to replace all the existing wiegand readers or install eight separate converters in order to upgrade an access control system. Alarm Octopus does it for you in one small board. Plus, since only one cable is needed between the Alarm Octopus and the access control system, you can install it near the doors saving lots of cables.

But that is just one of the many use cases. Multiple wiegand readers can be sent to a single OSDP port. This has potential to save a lot of money on access control systems that are licensed by the door. Alarm Octopus is useful even in installations where the alarm does not yet run OSDP. You can combine multiple wiegand readers to a single wiegand output.

The Alarm Octopus also has one switch input for each wiegand input. These inputs can be configured with a custom RFID card number. You could use it for a push to exit button, or as a doorbell. The choice is yours.

The hardware is highly configurable via an on-board password protected USB port. Worried about issuing the password to installers? You can also configure one RFID card also to unlock the system.

We are just finalising the Alarm Octopus documentation. Let us know if you want a preview copy.

Subject to demand, we have more products planned. The Alarm Squid is like the Alarm Octopus, but goes the other way. It will take inputs from up to eight OSDP readers and output them into an access control system that only uses wiegand. The Alarm Octopus and the Alarm Squid will also work together to send wiegand readers into a wiegand system over a single four hour cable.

We are also thinking about producing an expanded version of the Alarm Octopus with eight relays on board. Once again, the idea is to make installing access control systems easier on you.

This product has been designed from scratch in Sydney, Australia. All the firmware has been developed here and is loaded onto devices locally.

Most Wiegand to OSDP converters on the market will only convert a single Wiegand card reader to OSDP. Our converter is different. It will allow up to eight Wiegand readers to be plugged into a single piece of hardware.

At the moment, this product has only been tested with the InnerRange Inception.

In terms of capabilities, This device is configurable to act as up to eight OSDP devices. It has inputs for up to eight Wiegand readers.

In most a Wiegand reader will be connected to an OSDP device. But it doesn’t need to work that way. Multiple Wiegand readers can be connected to a single OSDP device. This might be useful if there are readers on the left and right side of a door and you wanted to reduce the number of OSDP inputs on your access control system.

We should warn you that whilst this device can support up to eight Wiegand interfaces, not all access control systems can. For instance, the Inner Range Inception can do eight, but the Inner Range Simple Lan Access Module (SLAM) expansion unit can only connect to four.

This unit is almost ready for release. If you are interested, please contact us.
