I was watching Kingswood Country from the 1970’s on TV, and I was was interested to hear a comment about something being so many miles away. Then it occured to me to ask when metric was introduced in the 1970’s according to this page. It was introduced in sporting events first followed by everything else. There are only three countries in the world which have not adopted the metric system – Burma, Liberia and the USA.

In the Uk the road signs are still in Miles. The legislation is actually in place to change over to metric but since there was no date for the introduction explaining why over ten years later they still have not converted across. The stupid thing is that a couple of years back a friend of mine imported a car from europe and had to get the speedo converted to miles, even though at some stage in the future all new cars will be in metric… Strange.
