Our responsibility was the tracking lead and<br \/>\nchase male and female competitors after they had finished the swim leg of<br \/>\nthe race <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/web\/consult\/projects\/ironman2002\/im4.jpg\" align=right ><\/p>\n<p>\nRadioactive Networks built up a number of GPS tracking units connected to<br \/>\nmobile radios. These units were placed on motorcycles which tracked the<br \/>\nathletes as they completed. Several times a minute the GPS data was sent<br \/>\nfrom the motorcycle and through our wireless data network.<\/p>\n<p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/web\/consult\/projects\/ironman2002\/im1.jpg\" align=left><\/p>\n<p>The wireless data network in turn repeated the data and broadcast it to the<br \/>\nentire race course. We had a number of receiving stations on the course<br \/>\nspecifically to monitor the status of the race. <\/p>\n<p><p>  The data was also sent to IronMan Live control room. A radio downlink<br \/>\nprovided the real time data to the computers processing the incoming data.<br \/>\nOne of the computers was processing the live weather station, and another<br \/>\ncouple processed the data for the mens&#8217; and womens&#8217; races.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"im5.jpg\" align = left>Once the data was processed, it was placed onto a background map showing the<br \/>\ncourse and any local landmarks. This entire map was then placed onto the web<br \/>\nevery 60 seconds.<\/p>\n<p><p>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/web\/consult\/projects\/ironman2002\/im3.jpg\" align=right><\/p>\n<p>All in all the event worked well. Radioactive Networks is already working on<br \/>\nsome improvements for next year&#8217;s race, and for other events. The AntiTracker<br \/>\nproduct that can be found elsewhere on this web site is just one of the<br \/>\nitems we are developing for this type of event.<\/p>\n<p>Putting on an event like this does not need to be expensive.
