Radioactive Networks worked on the 2002 Ironman World Championships in
\nKona, Hawaii in October 2002 – working with
\nLateral Linking Broadcast <\/A>
\n. Our responsibility was the tracking lead and
\nchase male and female competitors after they had finished the swim leg of
\nthe race <\/p>\n

\nRadioactive Networks built up a number of GPS tracking units connected to
\nmobile radios. These units were placed on motorcycles which tracked the
\nathletes as they completed. Several times a minute the GPS data was sent
\nfrom the motorcycle and through our wireless data network.<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

The wireless data network in turn repeated the data and broadcast it to the
\nentire race course. We had a number of receiving stations on the course
\nspecifically to monitor the status of the race. <\/p>\n

The data was also sent to IronMan Live control room. A radio downlink
\nprovided the real time data to the computers processing the incoming data.
\nOne of the computers was processing the live weather station, and another
\ncouple processed the data for the mens’ and womens’ races.<\/p>\n

Once the data was processed, it was placed onto a background map showing the
\ncourse and any local landmarks. This entire map was then placed onto the web
\nevery 60 seconds.<\/p>\n

All in all the event worked well. Radioactive Networks is already working on
\nsome improvements for next year’s race, and for other events. The AntiTracker
\nproduct that can be found elsewhere on this web site is just one of the
\nitems we are developing for this type of event.<\/p>\n
